How is your medication affecting the nutrients in your body?

Are you Taking NSAIDS (Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatories)?

 Taking NSAIDS may deplete folic acid from your body.  Folic acid depletion is linked anemia, anorexia, birth defects, cardiovascular diseases, cervical dysplasia, cognitive defects, colon cancer, diarrhea, headaches, fatigue, insomnia, and nausea.

Are you taking any of these?

Diclofenac, Diflunisal, Etodalac, Fenoprofen, Ibuprofen, Indomethacin, Ketoprofen, Ketorolac, Meclofenamate, Mefanamic Acid, Nabumetone, Naproxen, Piroxicam, Sulindac, Tolmetin

If you take any of these medication for an extended period of time, supplement with 400 mcg Folic Acid.

Are you taking Oral Contraceptives or Synthetic Estrogen?

Taking oral contraceptives containing estrogen may deplete folic acid, vitamins B2, B3, B6, B12 and C, zinc from your body.  Depletion of these vitamins may contribute to depression, sleep disturbances, and increased heart risk.  Magnesium depletion may cause heart problems, constipation, nervousness, asthma, and/or osteoporosis.

Are you taking any of these?

Cenestin, Compounded Bi-est or Tri-est, Esclim, Estrace, Estradiol, Estratab, Estrone, Estraderm, Menest, Ogen, Premarin, Premphase, Prempro, Vagifem, or Vivelle.

 Are you Taking an Antibiotic?

There are healthy bacteria found in your intestines that aid in digestion.  Antibiotic treatment may disrupt the normal balance of these bacteria.  Beneficial bacteria that are essential for absorbing nutrients are depleted from your intestines when you take antibiotics.  This can cause diarrhea, yeast overgrowth, upset stomach, or immune problems.

A probiotic blend can be taken orally in a capsule form.  Take probiotics for a full four weeks after a round of antibiotics.

Are you Taking a Statin?

Baycol, Lescol, Mevacor, Pravachol, Lipitor, or Zocor.

Taking a statin may deplete the nutrient Coenzyme Q10 from your body.  CoQ10 is a vital nutrient made in all living cells to provide essential energy, perform anti-oxidant functions, and protect against the toxicity of certain drugs.

Taking between 100-200 mg per day of CoQ10 to avoid depletion.
