About Nathalie Trees

I bring a unique perspective and set of skills to my work in medicine. I have always been intrigued and curious about health and medicine and traditional approaches to healing. As a child, one of my favorite books was a medical encyclopedia and I always thought I would attend a traditional medical program. In my early twenties, I went to college to study Biology and I had a number of wonderful encounters and friendships with herbalists, nutritionists, and energy healers. I started studying and learning all about herbal medicine and using food as medicine. I used herbs myself and often had a few people in my living room asking questions and looking for recommendations for simple health complaints. I started Kung Fu classes and was introduced to Qi gong, but that did not last too long, as I was on a student’s budget! I graduated university, with the hopes of perhaps attending a traditional medical school, yet all the while earnestly pursuing a similar passion, herbal medicine and nutrition. I knew that even if I did study the traditional course of western medicine, I would probably not practice that way.
I instead used my studies to pursue a career in biotechnology and genetics. It was fascinating and very cutting edge in the beginning. I was part of company that is still doing incredible work with stem cells and biotechnology. I spent my days investigating the biology of cancer lines, hoping that our company would be the one to crack at least part of the code of understanding cancer progression. After a few years of working with inatimate cell lines, I recognized that I was missing a critical piece- the face to face experience. Here I was working on “cures” that may or may never hold the answer. I decided that I wanted to work directly with people in a clinical setting. Shortly thereafter, I moved to Los Angeles, California and started a masters program in Chinese medicine.
I love my work and look forward to seeing new clients and establishing new connections in healing. I feel that healing approaches to gently support and empower the client are the most valuable. Integrative oncology is my passion and I look forward to a time where our understanding and treatment of cancer is more holistic, gentle, and supportive.
I have been in practice now for over 5 years and have seen clients from all over the world. I had a private practice in Los Angeles for 7 months, worked on a cruise ship as primary acupuncturist for a little over a year, and currently have a private practice here on the peninsula in Monterey, California. I also teach at Five Branches University, San Jose, California for their Masters of Traditional Oriental Medicine Program. My concurrent training is with Sifu Jerry Alan Johnson with the International Institute of Medical Qi Gong in Monterey in Medical Qi Gong, emphasis in oncology and Ba gua zhang.
