Acupuncture & Moxibustion

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine, sterile, single use needles into specific locations, called acupuncture points, on the body.  Research has found that acupuncture points are strategic conductors of electromagnetic signals in the body.  Stimulating specific points using acupuncture allows electromagnetic signals to be relayed at a greater rate than under normal conditions.  These signals trigger the flow of pain killing chemicals, such as endorphins, increase local circulation, increase white blood cell counts, reduce local inflammation, increase muscle relaxation response, reduce pain, and release serotonin.  Nathalie Trees, L.Ac. uses very fine needles and a gentle technique to ensure that her patients have a comfortable session with maximum results.  The needles are retained for between 20-40 minutes, depending on the treatment principle used.  The needles are disposed of in a medical waste sharps container.

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy using moxa, or mugwort herbs that is burned directly on the skin, over an area of the body, or on salt or ginger. The above picture shows moxa on a Himalayan salt crystal over the abdomen. This treatment is excellent to warm an area and move qi and blood.
